Real Property Management, Inc. Partners with Ohio’s Adopt-a-Highway Program
As Part of a Nationwide Environmental Impact Awareness Effort, Employees at Real Property Management, Inc. have Joined Together to Clean a Section of Ohio’s Route 23
Lewis Center, OH July 28, 2009 - Real Property Management, Inc.(RPM), an Associa Company in Ohio, announced the adoption of a 2-mile stretch of Route 23 as part of the Ohio Department of Transportation Adopt-a-Highway program and the national Associa Eco Resource Recovery Operation (AERO) program. The 2-mile stretch is at mile marker 3.9 – 5.9 along Route 23 just north of the Real Property Management, Inc. office and will be cleared of litter waste at least four times a year through volunteer hours from RPM employees.
Carissa Hillegas, an RPM employee and active AERO member searched for a way RPM could improve the environment and give back to the Lewis Center community, the Ohio Department of Transportation(ODOT) Adopt-a-Highway Program was the ideal program. Ms. Hillegas surveyed the employees to determine the level of interest, contacted the Ohio Department of Transportation through the Adopt-a-Highway website page to determine what area could be adopted and organized a kickoff meeting to rally the volunteers.
The Ohio Department of Transportation Adopt-a-Highway Program has had over 1,800 volunteers join forces to pick up litter along state highways; over 200,000 bags of trash are collected each year. Volunteers from RPM will save ODOT approximately $800 a year by cleaning up the area along Route 23. These efforts help reduce costs and give the ODOT an opportunity to focus on street repairs and construction projects while also helping improve the community, reduce costs and improve the environment.
AERO is Associa’s national initiative to bring environmentally conscious “green” practices to local offices, employees and managed communities. Local branches such as Real Property Management are encouraged to develop local AERO programs and promote recycling, energy conservation and other environmentally conscious efforts like Adopt-a-Highway programs. Associa, through AERO, provides “green” information to employees interested in improving personal environmental awareness and helpful tools and resources to assist community associations in being more eco-friendly through the use of environmentally conscious products and services.
